Quick but long, North Boom and Base plus Bikes head this the way, as do RRD!

It’s a Quickie of a Friday night Slog this week.. which is more than you will get next week as I am off for a few days but today’s is short; as the Vans in for MOT and I need to go get it before they close! Anyway, at least you have The Weekend to look forward to!

And it is looking to be a reasonable one at that, not great but reasonable with No Rain shown at the mo and most forecasts are in agreement regarding the wind strengths and directions, plus the OK temperatures we should have. Last weekend’s forecasts were really so very different and in the end, you would have to say that The Met was right and that Windguru were way out. If you missed it
The Guru said we would get strong winds, backed up by rain with a sprinkling of pestilence, whereas The Met reckoned ‘dry and breezy’ with an altogether more laid-back weather pattern).  I do hope that they are both right with this weekend’s outlook! Ok, what news is there?

North.. not the wind direction but the Sails company, have just released their latest hardware lines, which are the North Booms and North mast bases.
Today was our first look at the Ultimate booms and it is obviously and quite rightly designed for use with their own sails, which use a Loop Loop Go clew block, for the ease and speed of rigging  but if you are prepared to thread instead of loop, they can of course be used with any sail, should you so wish. The front end is of their own design (many others use Aeron’s or variations of, which have been tried and tested over the years) which as you would expect looks to be a very nice piece of engineering and the articulation is as smooth as the Streamlined booms we all once loved. Three types, two wave sizes, one X-Over and two Race, all of which can be found on our website.
The Mastbase places the mastfoot of your sail as about as low as you can go (the plate is only a cm deep!) so no excuses for not closing the slot in Race mode. It has a wired tendon for ultimate strength when in Wave Mode and the stainless fittings are beautifully finished, so it looks nice as well!  Whether the shallow base proves a bit shallow for cold hands we will see but I am sure North have tested this. Talking of Cold Hands, that used to be a Big Issue for the guys and girls who took part in the infamous Pioneer Run, as it used to be held in March but now it’s in October and so with a bit of luck, they will not suffer that issue! It takes place this Sunday and we have to mention it due to it being a’ Local Event’. The Run has always started from Tattenham Corner (ah, the place of my Birth) next to Epsom Race Course and it used to finish at Madeira Drive in Brighton but now it heads West to avoid the dreadful A23 traffic and concludes at a truly wonderful location, our very own Shoreham Airport (officially known as Brighton Municipal but only when it suits them)! Even if motorcycles are not your thing, this is still something that we in Little Britain can be proud of and should support, as we do the Bygone Days so well. Come on down and give these Pioneers a cheer!

A quick mention of other things to come and one that we are looking forward to is the Coming Home of RRD to Seasprite, who are based in Rustington. Seasprite are the Ezzy / Chinook and AV Boards importer for the UK but originally the company dealt with Copello boards, then Strapper and eventually RRD. This all goes back to around Year 2 of RRD (we are now in Year 27) and we know this, as that is where we came in! RRD, as a company have a huge range of products which of course an importer could not possibly hold in stock but if things go well at a meeting next week, there will be main product lines once again held in the UK, which will be just like the good old days (I reckon their Wing packages will be the one of the first to arrive.. will be adding to the site tomo, if all goes to plan). More on that as it develops..
Now for the wonderous weekends weather and Tide times!
Saturday, the opinion of most forecasters is that we will have weather.. with light 5-8kt winds from the South during the morning, which will accelerate during the afternoon to 12–15kt. Slightly overcast with a top temp of 18°C. The Tide is High at 12.43hrs on a 6.8m, making the river very ‘full’ and hopefully not ‘overflowing’, as the onshore wind will push the water in through the harbour mouth. Might be OK for a spot of Winging but should be very good for a paddle but please don’t get caught when the tide turns. And that concludes September!

Sunday Oct 1. will kick off with the wind staying from the South during the morning at 12-15kts and then swinging to Sou’Sou’ West later and may increase to 17kts at times, which should be good for Wings on The River over the High Tide that occurs at 13.23hrs on a 6.8m.  Temp is again 18°C so all in all, it should be a pleasant start to October and a very nice day for a bike ride, powered of course.

And that’s your lot for the next two weeks, apart from the Saturday Morning vid that I will of course post tomo. We hope everyone has a great weekend and please do drop by or give us a Call if we can  help with anything you should require!
Toodles, as they say in Pioneer World.
