Bills Short'cast for the Bank Hol Weekend

Bill's Short'cast is in and it looks like a Happy Bank Holiday for Wind Lovers... hopefully!
Weekend weather update.
Someone had to point out to me that this weekend is the August Bank Holiday – how did summer pass so fast? The evening skies are already telling us that September is on the way. But an active Jet Stream overhead means we are in a windy period.
Friday should see good afternoon wind again but the crisp and sunny start we have this morning ends as cloud moves in, and there are showers forecast for later which, where you get them, will muck up the wind. The wind is expected to gust over 30mph in some places but the direction is also quite westerly today so a passing shower has the potential to swing the wind to offshore on south-facing beaches. A true westerly is cross-off at places like Shoreham beach and that should be noted by afterwork sailors heading there for the 5pm low water today. The wind should last into the evening on beaches open to the west but note that sunset is now at about 8pm.
Saturday should see another sunny if chilly start, but the WNW wind is not expected to amount to much, even when it backs more onshore for the afternoon.
A new low forms out west and this brings wind and rain for Sunday and maybe a bit of a wave. The wind along the south coast will fill in early but is expected to be quite southerly ahead of the rain. Several fronts track through and the wind may veer more SSW later allowing a better launching angle for most south coast beaches. However some forecasts have the afternoon as a bit of a wash out, and high water in the Southeast is at about midday.
We could then get further wind on Monday but forecasts still vary for that extra day off. For Hove, the Met Office currently has wind in the morning in the 17-27mph range, and with the direction again very westerly.
In summary, we have the potential for three shortboard sailing days out of the next four. Have a great weekend everybody.
