The Wave sail with smooth power delivery and super light weight feel
This years modifications aimed at getting the power on more quickly without sacrificing any control. To do this we had to view the rig differently. Instead of the drive dissipating out from the hands of the rider we wanted it to be drawn in so that control was immediate – a new approach was needed.
The changes we have made have created a sail which is crisper, lighter and more direct which enables the rider to perform moves easier whilst still maintaining that locked in feel.
The new Rock features high-tech PXB05 tight weave laminate for super-crisp performance, good durability and a light feel. Every sail is built using carefully selected materials in specific areas of the sail to offer superb durability while maintaining light weight. Extra reinforced clew and tack areas handle massive pounding’s from the surf and folded over seams in the foot hide all stitching to eliminate the possibility of any wear from abrasion.
“They are super light in the hands and have an extremely locked in centre of effort due to the extra bottom shape which means they are incredibly stable both on the wave face and most importantly in the air! I was spotting ramps and just sheeting in as hard as I could. Rather than being pulled out of shape the sail just accelerated meaning I could jump higher and in more control than I have ever been able to before – it’s a pretty epic feeling! It’s a sail which lets you do anything and the only stopping you from doing it is you!!” – GEORGE SHILLITO
Ken Black explains the design changes:
“We’ve strived to bring power on more quickly without sacrificing any control. The key to our new approach was in a very different luff curve with an over-straightened top section. Outhaul rather than downhaul tension comes into play much more than on previous Rocks. The sail remains very stable with a low centre of effort, without high downhaul tension. The outhaul can then be used to control the amount of power without altering the centre of effort.”
