Hi Danny

You asked me to drop you a line about how the Goya One 102 sails, so here you are!

I have only used it once but rather than wait for the next opportunity, which could be some time, I thought I would let you have my first impressions.

The board is part of the One Wave and Freestyle/wave series and sports a revamped look with a wider nose than before. I used it on a typical south coast gusty windy day with small mushy waves and I had it in three strap mode, with the straps inboard. The board comes with a MFC 27cm fin but I chose to put a MFC 24 cm wave style fin in as I wanted to exploit the waves and wasn't so concerned about flat line blasting.

As I said, the wind was gusty but I stuck a 5.2 on it, rather than use my next board down (an 85 litre board) with a 5.8. I'm glad I did. I was a bit hesitant at first since to be honest I have never really had much fun on larger boards and have regarded them as a necessary evil, to be used when the wind is lighter or gustier but I was very pleasantly surprised by the Goya. The first thing it enabled me to do was to go off downwind in search of some waves, safe in the knowledge that although the wind was light I would be able to get back to where I started from. Within a short time I didn't notice the size at all. I don't know if this is something to do with the wider nose shape which makes the board look smaller or the fact that it turns so well.

I was able to try a bit of frontside riding which is always difficult in the conditions in which I usually sail as the prevailling wind tends to be onshore but the extra float from the board, combined with the wider nose enabled me to keep the board going on the wave and not have the usual,  which is for the wave to pass under me. It is a confidence inspiring board in the waves!

Jumping felt good, especially bearing in mind that it is a 102 litre and the board has a nice crisp feel to it without being clattery.

Above all the board was fun-good for jumping, great for playing in the waves and with a good turn of speed if that's your thing. And Goya (MFC) have finally sorted out their straps.

Trouble is that it's now made me lust after a Goya quad!
